Fuel tap help or I will cry

Post  Jburgess455 on Tue Dec 03, 2013 3:29 pm

I have a bandit 400 vc 1995.i have recently purchased 3 used fuel taps but know joy with any! One arrived to day and I ran through it to see if everything was working ok.... There was a great flow on the in position and reserve! However I have been told there shouldn't be a flow unless the vacuum is connected.... If this is false how do I turn the tap off ? Many thanks joe

Take it apart and clean it, I used petrol and my fingers (use gloves if you dont like the smell of petroleum gasoline) , softly massaging the membrane in the tap. Make sure that there is no other crud in the other parts. Maybee use a lint free cloth like a microfiber one. Carefully re-assemble it and that should fix it. It worked on mine and some others, but ideally a rebuild kit would be bought and used, or if you have deeper pockets you can be done with the vacuum and buy a pingle tap. Good luck.

I had a tap like that but I thinking it's causing me massive flat spots like fuel starvation

Also should fuel run through the tap without the vacuum being connected? If so u have no way of turning it off :/

Problem solved! One tap has a diaphragm problem, the other just need a vacuum to get the fuel flowing(like a syringe)
