Shifter position

I have a 2008 Bandit 1250 and the shifter position is horrible. I have size 9 shoe so foot size is not the problem. I can barely get my foot to shift and it is at a 45 degree angle. I have never had a motorcycle with this tight of gear shifter before. I looked to see if you can change the angle and distance but see no solution other than cutting and rewelding the foot shifter. Anyone else have this problem and any solutions. Thanks.
