Starter Motor problems Empty Starter Motor problems

Hi ,my name is Keith and i have a 2010 1250 bandit with 23 thousand miles on the clock and with the original starter motor. After my 11 mile commute to work and switching off the engine if i try to restart it sounds like the battery has gone flat.If i leave the bike to cool down or boost the battery the starter then spins the engine as it should. The battery is brand new and the alternator is charging as it should between 13.5 and 14.5 volts .Could the starter begetting tired or are there other known problems on the starter system, any ideas greatfully received cheers Keith.

Hi Keith - there's a known issue with 1250 starters where the internal magnets shear away from the housing and break up inside. The starter will turn, although slowly and taking a lot of current which mimics a flat battery. I had it happen and thankfully had a spare available as Suzuki in New Zealand wanted around NZD$1000 for a new one. There may be someone able to fix it but most end up replacing them.

I wrote the issue up with pics on my blog: kewwibike.blogspot.co.nz/2013/09/gsf1250-bandit-starter-problem.html
